This course helps to understand the problem of terrorism in our contemporary, increasingly global, world. The approach is communication-based but it draws upon literature from many disciplines to help explain the key issues related to international and domestic terrorism, counter-terrorism, how this phenomenon impacts in our society, and in particular how it is covered by the mass media outlets, both in Chile and abroad. This course will contain discussion, images, and overall subject matter that may be extremely upsetting. This is a hybrid course consisting of online work (readings, videos, some PowerPoint files) and one in-person class meetings of two academic lecture blocks per week.
